Draft invoice from the completed job

A field-service company used phone calls, a whiteboard and paper work orders to dispatch technicians. The office re-entered completed paperwork for billing and relied on calls for job updates.

The problem

The office needed current job information, while technicians needed to record work at sites without reliable mobile service. The new system also had to fit the team’s working day and carry completed work into billing.

What we built

  • Scheduling and dispatch: a web application with job and technician views, drag-and-drop assignment, a map view, scheduling hints and SMS notifications.
  • Technician app: a React Native application for iOS and Android that downloads the day’s jobs and stores field work locally.
  • Digital work orders: required fields, checklists, equipment photos and customer signatures.
  • Invoice drafts: completed work generates a draft after syncing, ready for the office to review, approve and send.

Status changes, photos, form responses and signatures queue in local storage. When connectivity returns, the app syncs them to the server so the office can see the updates.

How we approached it

Offline synchronization was built and field-tested first. The dispatch board then ran alongside the whiteboard while the office checked it against existing work.

Customer addresses, equipment history and contact details were cleaned and imported before the mobile rollout. Field training and feedback helped refine the work-order screens.

Delivered system

The office dispatches jobs from a shared board. Technicians complete work orders offline, and billing starts with the completed job record.
